Tracking macros is already hard. Tracking the full picture — magnesium, fiber, the micronutrients most people ignore — is harder still. The clients behind Nutrilyze were deeply invested in holistic nutrition and saw a gap: no tool handled both the at-home and eating-out sides of that problem in one place.

The solution worked on two fronts. At home, users could upload recipes and track macro and micronutrient intake across the day — a manual process at the time, pre-AI, requiring submitted recipes to be processed individually. For dining out, Nutrilyze partnered with local restaurants to surface their full menu nutritional data, including a self-serve flow for restaurants to upload it themselves. That meant someone with specific dietary needs — gluten sensitivity, fiber targets, a pescatarian or fruitarian diet — could look ahead at a menu with confidence, and remove the guesswork and awkwardness from ordering.

The app included a home dashboard for daily browsing and tracking, food and restaurant search, saving, and a community layer where users or influencers could build city-specific collections for people with the same dietary needs — the best places to eat a fruit-only diet in Houston, for example.

I was the sole designer on the full application. The role was built around designing the product vision so founders could bring it to investors.

The product was never fully funded, but it fulfilled its purpose. The work also extended into a web design and build for Midwestern Originals.
